Dan Nightingale: Quick Quiz

Dan Nightingale

We had a good chatter with Dan Nightingale at last year’s Fringe, but as he returns to Edinburgh for 2013 with new show ‘Love In The Time of Cholesterol’ we threw the Quick Quiz questions in his general direction.

TW: Tell us about your show in no more than sixty words.
DN: A very funny 55 minutes of stand-up comedy about my consistently ridiculous love-life or, to be more accurate, lack of a love life. A comedic articulate insight into the complications of the irritable cringe fest that is modern romance.  There’s also dancing and free cake and CGI special effects and jugglers and all the things your heart desires.

TW: Tell us about one other show you are planning to see this year.
DN: Does the Alan Partridge film count? No? Well I’m going to see it anyway. Festival wise, part of the fun is to see what’s good when you get there, wait to see who’s got a (and I hate this word but…) buzz.

TW: What’s your best piece of advice for Edinburgh first-time fringe-goers?
DC: For every ticket you buy where you already know the name of the act, buy another ticket for an act that you don’t. The whole point of the Festival is new and undiscovered comedy. Don’t just play it safe. Live a little, see something that could be shit. It’s exciting.

TW: What have you done to prepare for your Edinburgh show?
DC: I’ve been on an unforgiving, gruelling regime of gigging around the country, sometimes twice a night! Talking, for up to thirty minutes, at a time. Stood-up! It’s been hard; I’m not going to lie. At one point I even had to drive to Birmingham. Birmingham for the love of God! That’s the commitment I make to my art.

TW: Scotland’s got an important referendum coming up, if you could instigate your own referendum, what would it be on?
DC: Independence for Lancashire.

‘Dan Nightingale: Love In The Time Of Cholesterol’ was performed at the Pleasance Dome at Edinburgh Festival 2013.
