The Princess And The Dragon (Theatre And Puppets Sol Y Tierra)
By Iain Martin | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Trickytrickster, the mushroom munching dragon, is fed up of his fungal feasts and fancies filling his face with a succulent princess instead. Thus begins our tale, played out by a colourful cast of Muppet-esque puppets. The set and the puppets – particularly the dragon – look amazing, but the story is fairly simplistic and the thick Spanish accents of the performers are occasionally difficult to comprehend. They do raise some laughs though, especially when they break out the slapstick. Moreover, towards the end of the show, the children in the audience are given the opportunity to interact with the puppets on stage, which goes down very well. It’s an enjoyable hour, but there’s definitely a lot more style than substance.
Acoustic Music Centre at St Brides, 10 – 14 Aug, times vary, £6.00 – £8.00, fpp28.
