ED2011 1/5 Reviews ED2011 Comedy Reviews
Gagtanamo Bay (White Noize Productions / PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Hannah Van Den Bergh | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011
“It’s improv, so if it’s shit it’s your fault!” announces Duncan Hargreaves. Any comedian who feels the need to justify his failure to deliver before he has even begun makes you instinctively want to leave as soon as you can. The acting, the jokes and the god-awful premise makes the dwindling audience self-conscious and painfully aware of the infinite silences. You would expect Hargreaves to have made people laugh at least once, yet this one-man improv – who made no attempt to explain where the rest of the cast were, simply claiming they were dead – failed on all counts, even professing his own inability to act, which he then went on to demonstrate. Confrontation, disappointment and an hour you’ll never get back.
