Randy Is Sober (Brett Vincent for Get Comedy)
By Ellen Wilson | Published on Friday 26 August 2011
If you’re after something different from your usual bloke-with-a-microphone comedy, try ‘Randy Is Sober’. Firstly, it’s a puppet with a microphone. And secondly, it’s one of the most original and bloody funny shows I’ve seen so far. The title is pretty self-explanatory – Randy (the puppet with the microphone, aka Sammy J’s partner in crime) has quit drinking, smoking, sex and eating meat, and is here to share his thoughts on abstinence. It’s a brand of confessional stand-up that is as emotional and funny as it is bizarre – especially when you remember that it’s all coming from a purple puppet with ping-pong ball eyes. In any case, ‘Randy Is Sober’ is exactly the kind of show adventurous Festival-goers should try.
Udderbelly’s Pasture – The Dairy Room, 6 – 29 Aug (not 15), £9.00 – £12.00, 9.10pm (10.10pm), fpp 138.
