The Squiffy Journals (Squiffy Productions)

This abysmal student sketch troupe named themselves after the state of being grossly intoxicated. How appropriate: they presumed, during an absent-minded hour of delusion, that every syllable they uttered was hilarious, and were guilty of humiliating errors of judgment in front of a sizable audience. Their insipid performance contained unacceptably few imaginative punchlines, and the public reaction was so muted that the actors might as well have filled the seats with shop mannequins. Vaguely amusing scenarios were suspiciously similar to those of more established Fringe acts – a skit called Dementia FM was a poorly-veiled replica of ‘Ivan Brackenbury’s Hospital Radio Show’, while a hackneyed piece lampooning amateur musical theatre demonstrated that the quartet ought to remain in the chorus line henceforward.
