Vanessa Knight

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

A singer, songwriter and pianist who uses loop pedals to record her own live percussion and harmonies, Vanessa Knight is an unusual artist worth seeing. She plays a mixture of her own old and new work, with the odd cover, and her songs are imaginative, well-written, soaring ballad-like pieces. When she is good, she is incredible, but there were a few moments where she over sang and the vocals didn’t reflect her gorgeous voice. An emotional performance of her track ‘London Lights’ particularly stood out, especially against the backdrop of current events. She really engages the audience, delivering anecdotes and getting us to clap along; my main criticism is that it is just too short.

The Jazz Bar, 13, 14 Aug, times vary, £5.00 – £8.00, fpp223.
