Scene Of The Titans (Faulty Productions)

By | Published on Tuesday 16 August 2011

A drag queen and a gay man tell the story of the establishment of Northern Ireland’s first gay-friendly rugby team – through musical theatre, naturally. With the campest of dance moves and jazziest of hands, the cast glitteringly portray the vibrancy of Belfast’s gay scene. Terry the protagonist and Chris the drag queen steal the show. Unfortunately, the show is tarnished by some poor vocal projection, exaggerated cameo-acting and clumsy plotting: it’s at its best when nothing was happening; adherence to real events seems to have stymied the writer’s panache. Looking past this, the songs are funnily and impressively sung and complemented by well-choreographed, expressive dance moves. Not quite titanic, but a very entertaining show.
