The Chess Game (Forth Children’s Theatre)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

If you like your musicals packed with catchy tunes and nifty dance routines (and, frankly, who doesn’t?), you’ll like this show in which the talented young actors of the Forth Children’s Theatre deliver a performance which is both wholehearted and charming. ‘The Chess Game’, as its title suggests, takes the game of chess as it theme, but has a whole lot more to say than just chess – the game is used as an allegory of society as a whole. Cast and audience alike clearly enjoyed the material; however, the greatest proof of the show’s success lay in my walk home – I strode my 45 minute walk in the pouring rain with a skip in my step, humming the show’s final number under my breath.

Inverleith Church Hall, 5 – 13 Aug (not 7), times vary, £8.00 – £12.00, fpp224.
