A Midsummer Night’s Dream (American High School Theatre Festival)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

“Lord, what fools these mortals be!” However, fools the students of M.E. Lazerte High School are not! These Canadian teens tackle one of Shakespeare’s earliest and more complex comedies and absolutely smash it. Their traditional rendering encompassed every theme including the romantic pursuits, dreams and  the power of imagination, as well as darker elements of manipulation and control. The cast are aged between 15 and 19 years old and they showcase every single one of these themes very traditionally with their own charm sprinkled on top. Given, it’s not a huge production, but it is extremely entertaining with top notch acting from start to finish. They are a very talented and professional bunch of young people, and well worth the time.

Church Hill Theatre, 19 – 23 Aug (not 20), times vary, £5.00, fpp281.
