A Resounding Tinkle (Bablake Seekers)
By Katie Allen | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
As you might guess from the title, this is no ordinary play. N F Simpson constructs a bizarre suburban reality where it’s perfectly normal for people to trade exotic animals with their neighbours, or campaign for eagles’ rights to safety equipment. Less plot-driven than a sunbathing raccoon, the play’s dialogue instead is filled with wonderful non-sequiturs, and the deadpan delivery of the actors reinforces this glorious weirdness. Unfortunately, a few fluffed lines and repeated requests for prompts made it harder for the audience to suspend their disbelief. Still, while there’s definitely room for improvement, the absurd humour alone is worth the ticket price.
