Livewire Theatre’s Peter Pan (Livewire Theatre Company)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

“Following Peter Pan is like chasing after the wind.” Tiger Lily’s words sum up the appeal of the tale of ‘Peter Pan’ as a metaphor for the magical world of childhood. This performance by an all-child cast exquisitely dramatises various facets of characters’ personalities and the themes they feed into: Tinkerbell’s hissing speech and serpentine gestures contribute to an undercurrent of danger, while a portrayal of the pain left in the wake of the death of a young boy said to have been taken by Peter casts Peter’s playful irreverence in a more sinister light. The conversations between Wendy and Peter touchingly slip from playful adulthood to childish vulnerability. An inspiring performance.
