Rosie Thorn, Butter Would Not Melt (Red Dress Productions)
By Kathryn Moore | Published on Sunday 28 August 2011
‘Rosie Thorn’ presents one unconventional woman living in an idyllic suburban town – think ‘Desperate Housewives’ meets ‘One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. She is the local idol, celebrity, if you will, of honest clean living, who always dresses in tune with the season, is a fan of regal china and is known to bake a rather moist Victoria Sponge. So when the May Queen Crown is taken from her by a younger, blonder version of the domestic goddess, Mrs Thorn thinks it’s time to remove her, and a few others, from the equation – permanently. The talented one woman comedy, with sinister undertones, is bewitching, hilarious and extremely entertaining; it’s just a shame the story is evident long before the signposting.
