Single, Mother Of Two (Five One Productions)

By | Published on Wednesday 10 August 2011

It’s a shame when you sit through an hour of monologue that you could easily hear in real life. The difficulties of a lively single mother in her twenties finding a new partner prove not to be the least bit surprising or unique. Watching the young woman getting ready for a date, applying make-up, putting on her little black dress, stepping into her fancy shoes, and all the while listening to her alternatively moaning, longing, dreaming and taking delight makes this piece drag on and on. It’s a real shame because the actress is wonderful – in delivery, in intonation, in appearance – and the script is witty and very realistic. But there is simply nothing new here.
