The Moscow State Circus – Babushkins Sekret (Moscow State Circus)
By Harriet Dodd | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Imagine your childhood circus and then add some Russian bling and techno music. A traditional circus featuring hoops, juggling, tightrope-walking and clowns, this act tells the story of a Russian aristo looking for lost family jewels, and ends on a refreshingly un-materialistic message post-communist Russia. You’ll notice the Soviet flags on the way in and see that the act has not compromised on its historical past. At times, the audience participation was overly bawdy for the young crowd – not that the kids notice, though – and at two hours long and showcasing gymnastic skill that is impressive for all ages, this is a good option. It’s no Cirque du Soleil but a decent Fringe alternative.
Ocean Terminal, 9 – 21 Aug (not 17), times vary, £7.00 – £28.00, fpp282.
