ED2011 1/5 Reviews ED2011 Theatre Reviews
Two By Jim Cartwright (Dreamshed Theatre)
By Paul Collins | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
Like a peg-legged man, ‘Two’ drags its ungainly wooden leg of a script along the stage. It seems a shame and a contradiction to belittle a hitherto successful play but, as hard as it tries to stand up straight and look elegant, here it falls flat on its face. The endearing duo Richard Nutter and Jilly Breeze vainly try to fill the play’s rotted holes with life; but whilst the former has some briefly commendable moments as an oppressive husband and bartender, neither actor adds anything other than unbelievable extremes of emotion and mannerisms. Vignettes consisting of stereotypical soap-opera characters inconclusively intertwine to create a hollow and arthritic hour of theatre.
