A Taste O’ Scotland (Tackety Boot)

By | Published on Saturday 11 August 2012

When a performer dons a turkey hat and sings about a gay rooster, you know you’re in for an interesting ride. Starting off with Scottish ditties, a cappella tunes and handouts of shortbread and porridge oats, the set began as well-themed entertainment. Sadly it swiftly deteriorated. ‘Tackety Boot’ tried hard but his lyrics were lost through problematic diction and the excess of whooping soon became hard on the ears, making the act better suited to a pub full of drinkers. Some Irish and American numbers were amongst his redeeming moments and if you’re into traditional folk, this may be your cup of tea. Nevertheless, for a real taste o’ Scotland you’re probably better off taking a walk up the Royal Mile.
