Chilly Gonzales

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Chilly Gonzales was a melodious sensation. The MC and pianist extraordinaire took to the stage in a smoking gown and slippers and gave the air of an intelligent and frustrated artist. His casual, conversational approach to performing juxtaposed beautifully with his tremendous stage presence and his reactions to late-comers and hecklers had the audience in stitches. At one point he even invited a heckler on stage for a piano lesson. This was not just a hilarious routine, but also an interesting lesson in minor and major keys, the origins of Gonzales’ fascination with rap and formulas in music. From meaningful spoken word solos to phenomenal classical-ised medleys of pop and rock tunes, Chilly Gonzalez had it all.
