Phill Jupitus – You’re Probably Wondering Why I’ve Asked You Here… (Phill Jupitus / Off The Kerb Productions)
By Paige Wilson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
This is Phill Jupitus as I’ve never seen him before. He mounts the stage as Kurt Schiffer, a deceased German U-Boat commander; the late actor Vernon Herschel-Harley and a version of his future self from 2052. Brave and innovative, Jupitus relies solely upon questions from the audience to fuel his show, lessening his control and allowing it to go in almost any direction. Although amusing, the show I saw developed quite gradually, never really taking off or realising its full comic potential. However, if you come prepared for a riotous night of heckling, and armed with a good sense of humour, you’ll have a blast. Though a little self-indulgent, Jupitus has defied categorisation as a run of the mill stand-up/comedy panellist with this bizarre yet wonderful show.
