The Edinburgh Revue Sketch Show (PBH’S Free Fringe)
By Christopher Rumbles | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
This show was cringe-worthy in a way that makes you almost want to utilise the old cliché “so bad, it’s good”. Like an eccentric dad attempting to tell a ridiculously unfunny joke, more laughter came from the awkward tension than from the show’s actual content. More often than not this group of Edinburgh University students subjected us to a series of hackneyed sketches with conventional character types. I’m the sweary one, I’m the loud one, I’m the weird one…yeah, yeah. The show did show glimpses of genuine humour, with a sketch on a new French fragrance known as ‘Incest’ being one of the few that was as well-executed as it was written. Much like the recurring ‘Real Life Catwoman’ gag, this quickly grew tiresome.
The Banshee Labyrinth, 3-25 Aug, 4.45pm.
