Will Hodgson – Kidnapped By Catwoman (Will Hodgson / The Stand Comedy Club)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Will Hodgson is not your average comedian, appearance-wise, with his tattoos and shaved head, and in this show he describes his unlikely life path from timid child to punk teenager, on to becoming a wrestler and finally a comedian. Hodgson’s appeal is in his ability to make people laugh by teasing no one but himself: we were taken through his tales of odd fetishes, childhood embarrassments and desire to revolutionise the inequities of urban life. Despite a slightly uncomfortable atmosphere in the room, Hodgson’s rantings were engaging and witty, accompanied by humorous photos. He lost us a few times due to speaking quickly, and having one too many obscure references for the average audience, but, by and large, his droll yet charismatic sense of self-mockery made for an intriguing show.

The Stand Comedy Club IV, 2-26 Aug (not 13), 5.45pm.
