A Corpo Libero / The Woman Who Wanted To Be Funny (Curiosity Seed And Silvia Gribaudi)

This engaging double bill of dance acts opens with Edinburgh company Curious Seed’s ‘The Woman Who Wanted to be Funny’. Dancer Christine Devaney performs three dance numbers, accompanied by musician Luke Sutherland who uses looping tracks to turn his voice and single violin into a wall of sound. Both touching and funny, it’s a delightful piece of contemporary dance theatre. The second act is the hilarious Silvia Gribaudi, who performs a charming piece examining the female condition. She is a very funny lady, appearing at times like a more graceful Mr Bean. I won’t spoil the punchline to her piece here, but suffice to say I’ll never hear an opera singer’s vibrato in quite the same way again.
