Revival! (Mairi Campbell and David Francis)
By Olivia Lyth | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
‘Revival!’ is an exploration of the tensions between art and religion throughout Scottish history. Francis tells the story, while Campbell accompanies him on the violin, singing at appropriate moments. The duo makes a charming pair and succeed in transporting their audience to a different time in the Scottish countryside, and Mairi has a soothing voice that really evokes a sense of the dramatic highlands. The show is in many ways a more traditional form of entertainment – one that focuses on storytelling rather than any kind of dramatic effect – and offers a real sense of history and tradition; perfect for anyone who has travelled to Edinburgh hoping to experience Scottish culture.
