Holmes And Watson – The Farewell Tour (Cherwell Theatre Productions)
By Lia Sanders | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Holmes and Watson are putting on a show at the Fringe. Things do not go as planned, and they resort to improvising a set and playing all the parts; Watson flirting with himself is hilarious. While purists might be displeased by how this is a spin-off of the spin-offs (we have both the deer-stalker hat and the “elementary, my dear Watson”), some aspects spoof the original, such as James Snee’s creditable performance as the arrogant yet tender-hearted consulting detective, and the epic narrative tone. The pair bicker their way through the show, making us think again about their relationship. And, if just for the ending, this deserves a high place in the world of Holmes’ derivations. Very silly but very good fun.
