Small Narration (Wojtek Ziemilski)
By Iain Martin | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
‘Small Narration’ is Polish artist Wojtek Ziemilski’s attempt to confront the fact that his grandfather collaborated with the Communist secret police, while at the same time exploring the nature of modern contemporary art. It could have been really interesting, but the decision to present the piece in the form of a slide show, with Ziemilski reading a lecture directly from bits of A4 paper in an unwavering monotone, makes it virtually unwatchable. It is self-indulgent, fantastically pretentious and above all, unremittingly dull. The only bright points are occasional videos of contemporary art pieces and choreography, some of which are great, but the ability to download videos from the internet does not a good piece of theatre make.
