Subliminal Nonsense (Momus Productions)
By Lia Sanders | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
How long does it take to make a cup of tea? This point comes to mind while watching comedy troupe Momus Productions open their show about a four-man tea making team. At first it feels like a needlessly elongated university sketch but soon develops into a really clever concept, operating on several levels. There’s a chorus of self-mocking observations about theatre but, lest that get too highbrow, there’s also a nice background noise of innuendo. While the plot doesn’t dazzle and the characterisation can be unconvincing, the lines and their delivery are good enough to prevent us from minding too much. This company has potential so, if you’re in need of something extra at tea time, give it a go.
