The Cactus Gulch Opry House (American High School Theatre Festival)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

In the post-‘Glee’ world we live in, it can be hard to be open-minded about high school students putting on a show. ‘The Cactus Gulch Opry House’ is an efficient antidote to this prejudice; the professionalism, talent and sense of humour on display from such young performers is extremely impressive. The action takes place in a saloon in New Mexico, 1889, beginning with the arrival of the high-minded Thistle Creek Thespian Society, who are intent on putting on a play. In fact, they energetically bowl through three of them before the show is out. This is giddy and charming, and the actors are genuinely talented.

Church Hill Theatre, 6-11 (not 8, 10), times vary.
