The Mungo Boys (Alain Again)
By Sarah Richardson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
In the late sixties they were the boys in the band – but then they chose university, ”proper jobs” and families. After more than four decades apart, six former classmates at Glasgow’s St Mungo’s Academy who turned their back on dreams of music and stardom are reunited in this touching play about the optimism of youth – their younger selves played by more recent attendees of the school. This is a gentle, nostalgic production that never pretends to be anything other than it is – an honest celebration of both young hope and a local institution. And it’s all the better for it. The young actors give a good performance, and while the play won’t set critics’ hearts racing, it might touch yours.
Lauriston Halls, 9-11 Aug, 7pm.
