The Shit / La Merda (Silva Gallerano / Cristian Ceresoli)
By Veronika Kallus | Published on Friday 24 August 2012
You have to have courage. Silvia Gallerano certainly has. And so does Christian Ceresoli, who wrote this stream-of-consciousness of reckoning, a state of accounts of modern Italy and what it means to be a woman there. Or anyone small, for that matter. A naked woman, perched on a stool. Props? The light, the shadow, her body, her voice. The impact? Immeasurable. She moans, whispers, talks, speaks, imitates, screams, sighs, laughs, mocks, recites, simply speaks. She challenges… the audience, her thighs, her self respect. No matter how disgusting something is, you can get used to it. You can vomit yourself thin and you can fatten yourself like they fatten cows and geese. Just don’t let the shit out.
Summerhall, 3-26 Aug (not 17, 18), 9.15pm.
