Max Fletcher – Fail Beter (Max Fletcher / PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Thursday 22 August 2013

Certainly one of the most surreal shows to see at the Fringe, Max Fletcher delivers an unusually Byzantine hour of comedy, which seems to be performed very much for his own entertainment, as opposed to that of the audience’s. That’s not to say that it wasn’t funny, but the convoluted nature of the sketches, often lasting more than ten minutes, certainly left some people bewildered. But whilst one could argue that Fletcher’s act is rather self-indulgent, there was a strangely mesmerising quality to his delivery, which makes the show unsettlingly weird and brilliant at the same time. With a title referring to the great absurdist Samuel Beckett, there could have been no tribute more fitting.

The Dram House Upstairs, until 24 Aug (not 14, 20), 2.45pm.
