Sadie And The Hot Heads (Sadie And The Hot Heads)
By Frances Greenfield | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
Fronted by Elizabeth McGovern of ‘Downton Abbey’ fame, ‘The Hot Heads’ are a band with a quirky energy and somewhat strange lyrics. Songs about debt collectors and cows in Norfolk have a certain charm, the music itself is inoffensive and of a decent quality, but you can’t shake the feeling that this a self indulgent exercise rather than a work of art, and the lacklustrre performance of the band isn’t enough to pull the songs from the average. The musicians looked bored, and McGovern’s faltering attempts to jazz up the performance through ballet style movement added little to the atmosphere. The band might do better in a smaller, more relaxed setting, but seem lost in front of a large crowd.
New Town Theatre, until 25 Aug, 10.10pm
