Tango Theatre – Woman Of Light, Woman Of Shadow (Alma De Tango – Colombia)
By Andrew Bell | Published on Monday 26 August 2013
Struggling to be heard over the noise of three fans, Patrissia Cuberos takes us on a one woman exploration of the life of Malena. An awkward mixture of Argentinian song, storytelling and audience participation, this show feels unfocussed throughout. Concentrating on a different part of Malena’s life, each night should have given us a detailed insight into Malena’s life. However, Cuberos’ narration meanders aimlessly and she slips in and out of character. When she’s fully in character, Cuberos is a powerful actor and her singing and guitar playing are good, but her interaction with the audience is stilted and the show suffers for it. ‘Woman Of Light, Woman Of Shadow’ isn’t terrible, it just needed to have been much tighter.
C aquila, until 26, 4.35pm.
