The Black T-Shirt Collection (Inua Ellams and Fuel)
By Natalia Equihua | Published on Saturday 31 August 2013
One joke was all it took for brothers Muhammad and Matthew to start a t-shirt company that went from a small business in Nigeria to a world-wide phenomenon. ‘The Black T-shirt Collection’, written and delivered by Inua Ellams, begins with a warm narration that inevitably evokes the nostalgia of childhood. But as it progresses, the story becomes more challenging, as the brothers realise just how much they are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve success. This is less theatre, and more storytelling, and its complexity makes it hard to keep up with at first; yet Ellam’s eloquence makes every scene utterly vivid, touching on the deepest chords of our emotions.
