The Complete History Of The BBC (Abridged) (Five Rounds Rapid)
By Alice Harrold | Published on Friday 30 August 2013
This presentation takes us through the rich history of the BBC and those who contributed to it, as told by ‘Terence and Ingrid Plater’, played by Paul Thomas and Alix Cavanagh. Terence is the over-eager collector and Ingrid his less enthusiastic wife. The pair span every decade of the Corporation’s life in a well-prepared, whimsical show. Their aim, of course, is to convey the story of the BBC to the public and this is mostly done well through a succession of anecdotal facts and a few sketches. Though the other objective, it seems, is to achieve this with plenty of humour and on this account they weren’t quite so successful. Though with interesting stories and an air of nostalgia, there was a saving grace.
Sweet Grassmarket, until 25 Aug, 6.35pm.
