The Graveyard Slot (Hecate Theatre Co)
By Sarah Virgo | Published on Tuesday 20 August 2013
‘The Graveyard Slot’ is a behind-the-scenes, alternative way of viewing a radio show, acted out as if live on air. The concept was interesting; however, the use of scripts and the lack of any strong visuals took a while to get used to. The radio show began with a haunted house story, in the style of a Scooby-Doo mystery, which involved some criminals attempting to take an old widow’s fortune. The use of props to create sound effects was entertaining and surprising – my particular favourite was the bubble blowing to represent a generator. The acting was melodramatic and the storyline was predictable, but of course this gave it a very radio-like quality, and comical charm.
