Whodidit? (Ham-A-Lot)

By | Published on Sunday 18 August 2013

A murder mystery spoof featuring a large cast of clueless Cluedo caricatures, ‘Whodidit’ is a daft, good-natured play seemingly well-suited to an amateur company. Unfortunately Ham-A-Lot’s version is dead on its feet, a dull, directionless production that misfires like an antique revolver. You can see these six performers are trying, but though they show plenty of heart, they lack the skill to make their characters memorable or the flair to make them funny. Intended as a fast paced farce, this quickly becomes a humourless slog, with cringe-inducing puns and limp innuendo garbled by deliberately hammy deliveries and numerous accidental fluffs. By the end, the audience is left wondering less ‘who did it,’ and more ‘why did they bother?’
