Royal Mile Book Fringe (Luath Press)

By | Published on Tuesday 27 August 2013

If you’re after a bit of local colour this Festival, then the ‘Royal Mile Book Fringe’ might be for you, as a series of homegrown writers lead talks on their works and on Edinburgh in general. Stuart McHardy spoke with obvious passion about the history of Arthur’s Seat, weaving the legends through the environmental facts with a skill that marks him out as a great storyteller. I left feeling informed and a little wonder-struck, wishing I had more time to roam the hills and get away from the chaos of the Royal Mile. My main quibble with this event was the high ticket price, which only leads to exclusion from an event essentially aimed at the casually interested, rather than an academic crowd.
