The Super Serious Show: Quick Quiz

Super Serious

It’s a ‘mash-up’ comedy show from LA no less, with stand-up, sketch, character bits and comedic shorts all on the bill. The team behind ‘Super Serious’ tackle the Quick Quiz.

TW: Tell us about your 2012 show in no more than 60 words.
SS: We’re a comedy mash-up show flung from the far reaches of Los Angeles. The ‘Super Serious Show’ is set-up for a variety of performers, styles and formats – for the ADD sufferer in all us. We have the headliner serve as host and always mix in a healthy amount of non-stand-up, whether that means sketch, music, character bits, videos or just a fun dose of the random.

TW: Tell us about another show or performer you’re looking forward to seeing this year, and why.
SS: We’re looking forward to having Marcel Lucont (at Underbelly Cowgate) bring his obnoxious French ways to our show. Musical comedy performer Rachel Parris (Free Festival) is also another fun act we’re excited to catch, and happy to be snagging for a few of our shows as well. And we’re certainly looking forward to seeing some of our motley Los Angeles pals like Drennon Davis (at Assembly Roxy), Kumail Nanjiani (at Assembly Roxy) and Eddie Pepitone (at Just The Tonic) amusing and confusing the Fringe audiences.

TW: How will you be preparing for the Fringe this year?
SS: Aside from immersing ourselves in the Fringe Programme to an unhealthy degree, our small team will be probably just be studying Scottish slang and watching Pixar’s ‘Brave’ a bunch.

TW: What are you most looking forward to about coming to the Fringe for the first time?
SS: We’re really looking forward to being jaded and cynical about the whole experience by…I’d say the middle of Week Two. I think that’s how long it takes to kill the wonder these days. Getting excited already about not being excited.

TW: If your show was an Olympic sport, what would it be and why?
SS: Is this question sponsored by a beverage company? Very bold to mix sports metaphors with the arts. Playing along with your sports metaphor game, though, the easy answer is the swimming mixed medley relay race. Because of the variety of acts throughout the hour and the always-present ever-so-slight chance of drowning.

‘The Super Serious Show’ was performed at Assembly George Square at Fringe 2012.
