Festive Season (St Edward’s School)
By Veronika Kallus | Published on Saturday 27 August 2011
A pair of brothers who make your skin crawl and – well, just who exactly are They? In this intensely acted play, two brothers, each very dependent and rather jealous, are controlled by their directing, arranging mother – who is well aware they depend on her and are jealous of each other. The already blown-up situation gets out of hand when They come for her on Christmas Eve. The decrepit mother in her wheelchair was depicted as so tremendously believable, so repellent, that is was hard to even look at her. An old-fashioned stage and the precise cast give this dark, Pinter-esque tale a touch of morbid humour that makes the disbelieving audience shiver further with delight.
