Leave Hitler To Me Lad (Duck Egg Theatre)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

With its enjoyable musical interludes, ‘Leave Hitler To Me Lad’ is a compelling tale of children left in a residential home in the 1950s after their parents disappeared in WWII, but it is done a disservice by awkward staging and slothful pacing. A little voice projection would vastly improve this show, and a firm directorial hand wouldn’t go amiss. The young cast need someone to elicit spirit in their performances and impart a sense of confidence, enabling them to lift their voices to their audiences’ ears. The youngest members of the cast act with the least self-consciousness, but Sophie Roberts and Sam Kennedy also turn in heartfelt performances lending much needed grit and vitality to this otherwise diluted production.

Paradise In Augustine’s, 16 – 21 Aug, 1.45pm (2.45pm), £5.00 – £7.00, fpp274.
