Nunsense (Norfolk Youth Music Theatre)
By Anna McDonald | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011
The surviving nuns of an order whose numbers were drastically diminished after a bout of food poisoning, tap dance and get high through a benefit concert in aid of funeral costs for the final four deceased, after the allotted money was spent on a Wii Fit. Welcome to the world of ‘Nunsense’ – an extremely appropriate title. As expected, this show has a tendency to lean towards the hyperbolic, even pantomimic, at times. Alex Baldry is outstanding as Mother Superior, and although the sopranos can be little heavy handed and sometimes shrill, on the whole the harmonies are beautifully blended and carry well. If you like your shows with lots of cheese, jazz hands and the occasional hallelujah, this is definitely for you.
Greenside, 7 – 13 Aug, 8.30pm (9.30pm), £6.00 – £8.00, fpp229.
