Penny Dreadful’s Etherdome (Penny Dreadful & Richard Jordan Productions Ltd in association with Assembly)

By | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011

Macabre, raucous, foul, romping hilarity mixed with bluegrass – a stupidly terrific masterpiece. This show has everything, tantalising the audience with evil laughter, fake blood and body parts flying around the stage – get ready to be rolling in the aisles one minute and screaming with horror the next! Based on an American true story from the 1850s, it is fast-paced with an underlying moral message about human nature, greed and the virtues of working together. ‘Penny Dreadful’s Etherdome’ is wonderfully executed with strong performances from each of the three cast members playing multiple characters throughout. In the famous last words of one of the characters, the show is as “mad as a cat on a campfire”.

Assembly George Square, 3 – 29 Aug (not 16), 2.10pm (3.20pm), £10.00 – £14.00, fpp287.
