Release (Icon Theatre)

By | Published on Sunday 14 August 2011

Icon Theatre’s polished production of ‘Release’ tells the story of three ex-convicts struggling to reintegrate in society after life in prison. Everything down to the scene changes is artfully choreographed and perfectly executed. The original blocking helps the audience to examine situations from different angles, as the set defines drastically different locations within seconds. The seamless integration of projection and the beautiful lighting design make for a spectacular and fiery finale. The great range of the three actors allows them to paint a realistic picture of their lives as individuals, and tie their stories together nicely. It’s a shame that some of the plot devices break the realism with a few coincidences that seem too convenient.

Pleasance Dome, 3 – 29 Aug (not 17, 24), 2.00pm (3.15pm), £8.50 – £11.00, fpp291.
