The Matchmaker (Splinters Productions)

By | Published on Saturday 27 August 2011

Adapted from prolific Irish playwright J.B. Keane’s ‘Letters of a Matchmaker’, this charming tale is brought to life at the Scottish Storytelling Centre at this year’s Fringe. The award-winning cast of John Shedden, Anna Hepburn and Finlay MacLean bring Keane’s characters vividly to life through a series of beautifully performed monologues and encounters, with often hilarious consequences. Set in the 1950s, our protagonist Dicky Mick Dicky O’Connor endeavours to bring the single people of his small Irish town together. One thing this production achieves in spades is managing to convey a sense of Irish tradition and community — something truly uplifting to observe. This wonderful piece of theatre will warm the cockles of your heart.

Scottish Storytelling Centre, Aug 22 – 29, 3.00pm (4.50pm), £7.00 – £9.00, fpp279.
