The Rape Of Lucrece (makin projects presents Gerard Logan)

By | Published on Wednesday 31 August 2011

Shakespeare’s relatively unknown narrative poem based on the Roman legend of the title is brought to the stage by RSC actor Gerard Logan. The only thing to be congratulated is the memorising of such an epic piece, though it seems hardly a feat for someone who has been touring it for four years. The character changes were embarrassingly wooden, and included wide-eyed gasps to represent the gentler sex. His body shook, his feet fidgeted, and constant attempts to keep his hair from his eyes destroyed any narrative thrust, reminding everyone that here was a rather awkward man prancing about on stage. Even Shakespeare fans nodded off at some point – attend if an hour to catch up on some sleep is needed!

Zoo Southside, 5 – 28 Aug, (not 15, 22), 5.15pm (6.15pm), £7.00 – £9.00, fpp291.
