Tiddler And Other Terrific Tales (Scamp Theatre and Watford Palace Theatre)

It is hard to hold the attention of toddlers for almost an hour but this company manage it by throwing objects about, making weird noises and an ever-changing stream of stories. But that description doesn’t do them justice because there is artistry in the way the three performers move, taking it in turns to manipulate puppets or play certain roles. Consequently there is always something to grab the attention, especially when the hatted, tweed-wearing figures are so willing to contort their faces for comedy’s sake. Most impressive, however, is their use of objects to become characters, meaning that even I (with my marginally longer attention span) became almost convinced that a handbag was actually a frog.
