Edinburgh Renaissance Band’s Treasure Chest (Edinburgh Renaissance Band)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Celebrating their fortieth year at the Fringe, the Edinburgh Renaissance Band don’t merely hark back to the mediaeval, but fully immerse themselves in the past. With an array of weird and wonderful instruments and costumes this troupe bring the sights and sounds of a fifteenth century Italian court into the lavish St. Cecilia’s Hall. There are times when you feel like you’re witnessing something too archaic to be considered contemporary entertainment, but this is soon quashed by the cavalcade of intriguing songs and dances. Whether it’s a hauntingly beautiful Italian love song or a bawdy masked jig, the level of passion emanating from the performers is undeniable. They’re eccentric, they’re antiquated and long may they party like it’s 1499.

St Cecilia’s Hall, 1-12 Aug, 3.00pm.
