Metropolitan Cathedral Lunchtime Concerts (Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

The ornate St. Mary’s Cathedral is the venue for a quaint set of free lunchtime concerts. I was lucky enough to see a young Elinor Evans sing and play the clàrsach (Gaelic harp). Performing a mix of traditional Scottish music and original compositions her songs evoked a simple serenity. The clàrsach instrumentals, of which the show mainly consisted, had a gentle, reflective quality while the vocal pieces wistfully rose and whirled around the cathedral’s high ceilings, inspiring a sense of awe, but also peace. If you’re looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city then these lunchtime concerts are a perfect way to relax in a tranquil environment, whilst also enjoying some beautiful music.

St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral, 6-24 Aug (not 11, 12, 18, 19), 1.20pm.
