A Tapestry of Many Threads (Dovecot Studios / Alexander McCall Smith / Tom Cunningham)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

A symphony on many levels. Set on the grand Weaving Floor of the Dovecot Studios, once a Victorian swimming pool, this musical tapestry is a feast for ears and eyes. The clear and light room is lined with spindles of yarn in the most vivid colours. Purple, orange, azure blue, lime green, silky red, yellow. On the gallery above one glimpses inspiringly skilful canvases. Then the music starts and the four young artists start weaving an isle of sweet airs. Detailed shots of the process of weaving and of finished tapestry illustrate and inspire word, song, poetry. The whole experience is thoroughly heart lifting. Simple words reflect the assumed simplicity and monotony of weaving in all its many layered magnificent depth.

Dovecot, 4-15 Aug (not 8, 9), times vary.
