Who’s Your Daddy? (Ines Wurth and Paul & Diana Perez)
By Joseph Trotter | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Johnny O’ Callaghan’s promotional picture is terrifying; his tale is anything but. Heart-warming and colourful, his autobiographical story about his attempted adoption of a young Ugandan boy (Madonna-style) is fascinating and touching, even if it is perhaps not as amusing as suggested. O’Callaghan is a terrific presence, bringing the various components and characters of the narrative together with a compelling and convincing performance. Carefully avoiding the trap of whimsy or sentimentality, the production holds its tension until the final minutes, captivating a riveted and hushed audience, too intensely focused to disturb with a gasp or chuckle. Ignore the promotional picture; this is theatre at its warmest, life-affirming best.
